چکیده

In this paper we describe a method for estimating the internal parameters of the left and right cameras associated with a stereo image pair. The stereo pair has known epipolar geometry and therefore 3-D projective reconstruction of pairs of matched image points is available. The stereo pair is allowed to move and hence there is a collineation relating the two projective reconstructions computed before and after the motion. We show that this collineation has similar but di erent parameterizations for general and ground-plane rigid motions and we make explicit the relationship between the internal camera parameters and such a collineation. We devise a practical method for recovering four camera parameters from a single general motion or three camera parameters from a single ground-plane motion. Numerous experiments with simulated, calibrated and natural data validate the calibration method.

Calibrating a Binocular Stereothrough Projective Reconstruc - Tion Using Both a Calibration Ob - Ject and the Environment

We present a novel technique for calibrating a binocular stereo rig by using the information from both scenes and classical calibration objects. The calibration provided by the calssical methods is only valid for the space near the position of the calibration object. Our technique takes the advantage of the rigidity of the geometry between two cameras. The idea is to rst estimate precisely the ...

Direct Methods for Self-Calibration of a Moving Stereo Head

We consider the self-calibration problem in the special context of a stereo head, where the two cameras are arranged on a lateral rig with coplanar optical axes, each camera being free to vary its angle of vergence. Under various constraints, we derive explicit forms for the epipolar equation, and show that a static stereo head constitutes a degenerate camera con guration for carrying out self-...

Self-Calibration and Euclidean Reconstruction Using Motions of a Stereo Rig

This paper describes a method to upgrade projective reconstruction to afine and to metric reconstructions using rigid general motions of a stereo rig. We make clear the algebraic relationships between projective reconstruction, the plane at infinity (ufine reconstruction), camera calibration, and metric reconstruction. We show that all the computations can be carried out using standard linear r...

From projective to Euclidean reconstruction

To make a Euclidean reconstruction of the world seen through a stereo rig we can either use a cal ibration grid and the results will rely on the preci sion of the grid and the extracted points of interest or use self calibration Past work on self calibration is focussed on the use of only one camera and gives sometimes very unstable results In this paper we use a stereo rig which is supposed to...

Stereo Calibration from Rigid Motions

This paper describes a method to upgrade projective reconstruction to a ne and to metric reconstructions using rigid general or planar motions of a stereo rig. We make clear the algebraic relationships between projective reconstruction, the plane at in nity (a ne reconstruction), camera calibration, and metric reconstruction when a 3-D scene is observed with a moving stereo rig. Based on an in-...
